I'm just a worker (response to JL's "Love Examined)

I have to look past untenable rape
and a witchdoctor’s bones and stones,

strike action, road rage, theft and fraud
and potholed thoroughfares,

murder, drought, flood, fire,
and rising property prices,

cruelty to animals and the aged
and beggars on every corner,

vandalism, egotism, greed, lies,
and unsightly electric fencing,

before I can lift the covers off love
and see what lies underneath.

And what do you think? I’m a super woman
walking unscathed through a minefield
or a woman of dreams and fantasies
safe and protected by ignorance?

I’m just a worker, you see,
sifting through garbage and dirt
but I breathe and breathe in spirit-filled air
that motivates and levitates
the physical up to the mystical
where love is uncovered and visible
to the eyes of a well tutored heart.

Of course, there’s no happiness, light,
when I carry the weight of a long lost love
like a lowly beast of burden
but I focus my eyes past the heartache
because …
love lifted the covers off me – for me!

Good for you!!! Not easy to see past the reality of all thats wrong in the world, and see the light. Somehow I knew you did!
