4630 Ben’s Bridge 06 December 2005 Was this a secret place - a world of void and misunderstood meaning While those who compose great poems are to share wither and die not known to live Of a world all set up in its niceness to conquest An environment in part cruel taken in liberty as if Franklin in declaration was but abridged Programmed for consumerism where even in Philadelphia There was a toll to pay - when leaving behind one status to acquire Driving across the Benjamin Franklin bridge and returning by the way Walt Whitman wrote A path from Pennsylvania to New Jersey to travel One people - one mankind - across the Delaware River - where George Washington did once himself in the eye of defeat over independence go a poet who cares |
