Green Tara I'm green ... Green like the grass softly caressing your feet roots strong and deep Nourished by earth, sunshine and rain I am the plain on which you now stand as well as the plain unseen Perennial as time vast as the sea Existing for naught, yet vital you see ... My purpose? To Be! Not to be trodden upon, cut, thrashed and dried NO ... I am here to make your life sweet Sweet, like the grass the animals eat Sheltering, to the small and the meek A nourishing and sustainable treat Moist and covered with dew ... Refreshing I am here to revive you! I'm green ... Green Tara terasinas 4/20/2004 *WHO IS GREEN TARA? ~om tare tuttare ture soha~ "Tara" ... "she who saves", or "saviouress". As a popular Buddhist deity in the Mahayana tradition--especially in Tibet--Green Tara is compassionate, wise, and quick-acting. If one needs Tara and recites her mantra (above), it is said that Tara will quickly come to assist. She leads all beings across the river of samsara (suffering) to the shore of enlightenment, hence she is called "She Who Leads Across". Tara said ... "I, O Lord, shall lead beings across the great flood of their diverse fears..." So not only does Tara help those who seek Nirvana; actually a major role she plays, and the reason for her major popularity, is the protection she offers from the eight great fears ... the eight inner fears, which affect us all. The inner fears are: pride, delusion, anger, envy, wrong views, avarice, attachment, and doubt. Tara will help all those who suffer from these inner negative emotions. Another characteristic of Tara is her title "Mother of All the Buddhas". This represents her perfect wisdom, and also symbolizes the feministic quality of wisdom. (In Buddhist tradition WISDOM is represented by the female while COMPASSION by the male.) And, as we are all to be Buddhas eventually (Enlightened and truly free), Tara is also our Mother. Thus we should think of Tara lovingly. Her translucent green color is luminous with a great energy. She holds a deep blue lotus, symbolizing limitless giving and refuge. The color green is said to symbolize her quick action, and also her role as a forest deity. *It is said ... that Tara is inherent in all good women. *His Holiness, The Dahli Lama, as well as many others, hold Green Tara in high regard and honor her on a daily basis. * This poem wrote itself one day, as I was out in nature ... I beleive it was Tara expressing herself through me. ~Hope you all enjoyed the history and dharma shared. |

...SAVED FASTER THAN YOU CAN SAY "OM TARA"! LOOOVED IT! When I soak in jasmine-scented bath, I like to slide right down so that only my nose and mouth are above the water. Then with a deep, resonating voice, I'll say the OM and the Om Tara prayers alternately. My resonating voice vibrates throughout the water and my whole body absorbs the the power of the OMs into it! It feels amazing! Extremely healing! Try it! I'm sure you'll like it! Thank you for this wonderful post! Love & Mother/Father God's Light, EA |
