“Some leaves hang late, some fall
before the first frost--so goes
the tale of winter branches and old bones.”

~ William Carlos Williams

Dangling gently
frail with red hue,
leaves
speak of winters to come
and in cool breezes the trees sway
with hollow voices
we walk
hand in hand
the scarf of brown and green
knitted
holds you tightly
barely allowing your lips to part
to kiss me

dancing in the park
a withered lady
lost with time
skipping with the falling leaves
parting with the sun
singing a whisper of goodbye
to the grandchildren
who know nothing of death
laughs....while they count 1, 2, 3, 4....
as she hides carefully behind the yellow park slide

tomorrow winter will begin

our hands clasp tighter
shots of cold wind redden our noses
as tornadoes of leaves and flowers spin
wildly around us
then
a moment
and the calming starts
dusk about to set
we sit
a park bench cracked
leaving us to rest
50 years from now
hands aged with love hold on
and children who know nothing of death
will look upon us

tomorrow winter will begin.

Very well done!

It's a beautiful spring day here and I was chilled by the your words...in both ways.
