5233 Canaan’s Love 30 March 2006 If I could see you in my eyes would I love you for who you are If you could rest your head on my heart could you love me for who I am Your eyes - that compassion of your grin did I tell you - you have my mother’s chin Words I am unable to describe that word I can never find The grammar of an illusion the cuteness of a smile Should I love you if only for a little while A night of passion in amour a kiss upon more than your cheek Each succulent breast a man of honour To know you were the best This debonair child a Sarah to my Abraham Would I love you - if all was told To be there in Canaan to love you - until we were old Canaan is an ancient term for a region corresponding to present-day Israel/Palestine including the West Bank, western Jordan, southern and coastal Syria and Lebanon continuing to the border of modern Turkey. Yet Canaan was a metaphor, a word with another meaning, to such places in describing a culture and a world divided - where this dispersal of Israelites, descendents of, the Biblical figure, Jacob, was a unification in gathering of a community scattered the whole world over. The 12 tribes of Israel (son’s of Jacob, or Israel as he was also named). a poet who cares Or was Canaan, Canada on speed. |
