Out of the dust of fallen years
a hundred lifetimes, a millennium's tears

Out of ageless memory streams
borrowed moments, youthful dreams

Out of chains (Earth's ruthless choices)
heart-of-my-heart in echoing voices

Out of the circle, a golden ring
the music of spheres, morning stars sing

Out of the Cosmos, myriad flashes
the firebird rises out of its ashes

Out of what is, what time cannot sever
all things remembered, I see...Forever

Thank you, Steven.  This particular firebird left me weak in the knees.  He was my first love.  We had wanted to marry, but He was sent to Vietnam to patrol rivers inland, and I thought perhaps he died because he just dropped out of sight.

I found him  while learning to use the internet 35 years later.  It took me two months to verify that it was he.  Finally getting the courage, I called.   He was stunned, and I was so shaken I almost could not talk.  When I was able to tell him who I was, the silence was so stark I thought the line went dead...it was deathly quiet.  So I asked if he remembered me.  He said very softly, "There are some people you never forget!"

The tears ran, but I didn't let him know it. He had been shot and sent home to Texas.  I could not ask him why he didn't tell me.   But, for twenty minutes, there was nobody else on earth but us.

A phoenix?  Definitely.

Thank you, Nancy.  I still get butterflies thinking about what it was like finding him.  Life has some very strange twists and turns!

A heartfelt write, one which begs for a followup. SIGHING, will there be a sequel?

Midnitesun: I must join you in that sigh.  I don't know... but never say never.

(Are you a soft touch, like me?  Nevermind...I see it in your poetry!  LOL)

hugs,
Karen

beautiful...with much heart....

And so it those we live with
and should know who elude us
But we can still love them
we can love completely
without complete understanding

I'm happy to meet you, Dixie!  (That's right, isn't it?)  I was really touched by the thoughtfulness and feeling in your poem, as well.  So glad you stopped by, too!
