I awake in the morning as though I've not slept, I try to stretch but the aches kick in. Tired legs reach for the floor as sleep heavy eyes greet a grey dawn.... where has my youth gone? I used to greet the new day with a song in my heart but now it's a prayer. The bathroom mirror reflects my fears as I take my teeth from a jar to clean them,.... where has my youth gone? Embrocation replaces aftershave as I rub it in for the aches, no more the sweet smell of exubirant youth. I look down at my waistline and cannot see my feet, when did I allow such a shadow to be cast? A damp face cloth for the top of my head, combs have no place in my hairless world,... where has my youth gone? This bathroom is no longer my friendliess room no longer my magic cave gone are the treasures of arrogant youth. A dull room, a sad room, a room of distant memories, echoes of a youth well spent distant echoes fading ever faster. I look at the mirror, the great leveler the truthful one, the only thing in this world that I can trust not to lie to me and it tells me the terrible truth, you are old!! Your youthfullnes lives in another time, you have left it behind never to find it again! Old age is now your companion aches and pains your bedfellows, confusion is your map for the day and indecision your compass for life. I leave the bathroom and ask myself,.... where has my youth gone? silverwind |

Yes, the mirror becomes less of a friend as we age! But the mirror does not reflect our inner beauty ~ of which you have an ample amount. Your wit and self-effacing charm shone through this touching and memorable write. Well done! EA |

I suppose happiness should come with the acceptance of age. Great read for me. Thanks |

"I used to greet the new day with a song in my heart but now it's a prayer." Beautiful work and so meaningful to me. |
