The Plight of the Bumblegum

Buzzing along the pavement, she lifted up a hum
Carried her brown-bagged groceries, stepped in a pile of gum.
It didn’t take long to notice the lagging of her shoe,
The consideration of the bubbler, and the wad that someone threw.

The mighty hummer shook her head and smiled a note or two,
Thanking God her fortune,  thank God she had a shoe!

She pulled and tugged and kneed a dance
Then  came Channel two
They filmed and taped her bubblegum prance
What was she to do?

An employer (of Mega-wealth) saw her little dance
Her ‘Stick-to-it-ness’ couldn’t help   but to make him laugh!
He laughed so hard the building shook
The concrete came undone!
Then pretty soon the concrete peeled
The little wad of gum.

“I must must have her,
Must have her on my staff!
Give that girl a job and raise,
Golly, she makes me laugh!”

“What became of the shoe?”  you ask.
It was bronzed, antiqued and waxed,
Firmly, it was placed upon a walnut plaque.
Below it reads, “When in a sticky situation,
Always dance and laugh.”

Thank you, eor!  I needed a pickmeup today.  To know I put a smile on someone's face makes my evening go so much better.

Martie,

Thank you, Lady!  I asked my hubby the other day about the ending of that song...I couldn't remember, "Does the bumblebee get swatted in the end?"  (I haven't heard it in ages, but always was intrigued at the speed and skill it was played!)  Your mother must have been quite an accomplished musician to have played that!  Lucky you to have been inspired by her.

hugs,
cathy

Steven,

I'm so glad you thought it funny.  It took me two weeks, three days, six hours, 52 minutes, and 29 seconds to get all that gummydoo off my shoe!  And its always by the firehydrants!  You think I'd learn not to step in it!  Just kidding.  Glad you had a laugh.  This makes me happy.

Sometimes you just have to laugh to keep from crying... even if it turns out you're doing both. *S*

I like this very much, my friend... you gave me a grin... and also that "been there" feeling! *S*
