into the great abyss of "us" |

There are signs and omens now: an impotence of style; things that seem so different and yet I see familiar eyes sitting properly with knees clasped too close for reconcile - someone, quickly, call a priest. I'm thirsty for the wine. If I could make you understand that prayer could be deemed a curse because your wiles of ways defiled and what has saved you has caused hurt that slithers like a mutant cell causing chaos in my veins waiting for the cue to burst: The understudy has rehearsed. She prays the star shall die. I could smell the chemicals as I crept the shadow path through the courtyard of a saint-- Thomas, I remember that I laughed at us, the irony of scoring doubt from catholic creed: St. Thomas of Aquinas freed our hearts to bind in slavery the beggar's blanket of reprieve we rattled chains like medals - we marked with careful dotted lines as stripes upon the soldier sleeve up and down our arms we grieved the loss of our virginity while praying for solidity of just one wall to stand alert allowance of the poet's curse screaming in a silent "o" for just another verse and then tomorrow we'd be good. His eyes were rolling in his head as though there was a broken thread hidden somewhere behind blink and I asked this man to think about the times that were before how all our prayers begged for more of what we never handled well (but-oh-we-never-did-feel-poor) even as the brown-skinned child asked us: "What you come here for?" Wisdom behind irises and innocence upon the floor, playing with his matchbox cars and bullets were not metaphors but lined the tables in the dust as I nodded, drooling trust wondering if poison crept from them to us to him and then into the great abyss of us: tomorrow, we'd be good... |

It's like you summed up what should be, and what often is, and somehow crammed them without the impossibilities inherent in conflict into a pretty gold box. |

You never cease to take my breath away. Causing something somewhere deep within me to rise to the surface, gasping for air. Not yet certain what it is. LOL But...This is a compliment. |

For me, reading your poetry is like eating a hearty meal of meat and potatoes. It offers substance and substinence and I never leave hungry. Thanks for the meal! Hugs with love, Linda |

Serene One... If I may be so bold as to disagree... I think you may be incapable of writing anything that sucks... even a title. *G* This is fantastic!!! |

Suthern, you aren't alone! I don't think the title sucks either - and that was even before I saw your response. Serenity Blaze, Earth Angel said what I wanted to say, but in a much more imaginative way than I thought it - I am still tasting that wonderful meal - and I don't eat all that much or all that often, so it is particularly effective on me. Your poetry always has such depth and every time I read your a poem of yours I am reminded that I believe your IQ to be extremely high. I am often so daunted by it that I don't feel qualified to reply. It hurts me that you are unhappy. You so deserve to be wildly, intoxicatingly, deliriously happy. - Owl - Owl |
