What else would three silly poets do with a weekend together? They'd collaborate to write a sestina, of course... You folks will have to figure out which two stanzas belong to whom, though... With Love to all - Elizabeth Santos, Ruth (hoot_owl), and Nan She came to find a memory of the past To warm her heart with smiles and an embrace. Not even our almighty God could change The course that she had chosen on that day. There are some things more mighty than the sea; The undertows of friendship’s purity. He lived life fast and not with purity, Then found himself betrayed by his own past. So many hearts he’d broke, cast to the sea, He swore that he would never love embrace. But fate had other plans for him that day; The tides were turned and this time things would change. He’d never thought the course of life could change; But friendships born of trust and purity Rescind the dark travails of yesterday. Thence times of doleful solitude were past, Redressed by join of mutual embrace Shared tidings as the ebbing azure sea. There on a cliff beside a roaring sea, So many years ago another change Had started with an innocent embrace. That first encounter with the purity Of youthful love he squandered in the past, Because of what she saw one tragic day. It started out like any other day. Her morning walk along that tranquil sea Where sea gulls echoed out songs of her past, And falling mist hung thick neath winds of change, As dreams of love in all its purity Died with his reckless ill-timed caught embrace. The semblance of inopportune embrace Effaced her yearning hopes of love that day. No longer rapt in trusting purity, Her dreams upon the waves had swept to sea. But how the waning tides of time can change Two hearts who long to find their cherished past. Again the cliffs embrace love by the sea. Another day, and yet another change Finds future’s purity tied to the past. |

Thank you all for reading! No one has guessed who wrote what. Hint: They told me I twisted the story, but it was rather dry up to that point, don't you think? Anyway, Nan missed the bus this morning, but we caught that same bus two bus stops later about 20 miles up the road. Thank you Nan for coming to see me and Ruth for driving such a distance, and then driving home the next day after dancing the night away in my living room. (And was THAT an eye opener! They both got the moves. Step aside, JL!) This reunion meant so much to me, more than you can possibly know Missed Sharon, though, and Martie, and LeeJ, and Denise, and...... Rain check? Love you all Loz [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (03-05-2006 03:18 PM).] |

Ahah! It matters not, but I think now it is Ruth, Nan, and you ended it right Lizzie? Nan missed the bus ![]() Next time - it all for one, and one for all. We have to make a time then we all go, and dance barefoot in your grass - it's a deal! ![]() |

Thank you for stopping by, poet friends... ![]() I admit to the one stanza in question (i.e. the dark travails one)... You've got me on that. The final tercet was a joint effort. That only leaves five to go. And we did play one game of Scrabble, which Ruth won (but she wouldn't let me play "finky" either). Believe it or not, though, we didn't take pictures. I left my camera at home and happened to miss the most exquisite crystalized forest photo day. I was bumming big time. We had a wonderfully relaxing time. Till my next escape... ![]() |

Ladies, how much fun and how I wish I had been there. Nan, it is so good to see you in front. I do miss your writing. Earth Angel and I were talking about the visit we had with Sharon and also Titia. You must all come to the mountains one day and relax in my beauty. Hugs to you all, Marti Every blade of grass has its angel |

I am a "finky" 'cause I am about to tell you they cheat! ![]() Misty Lilacs!! I just realized that is you Marti, how dumb am I? That visit was the best ever - a Red Socks game - like how kewl was that? My son went to Boston to a game and got the exact same pictures as I took, and we have them framed in one frame side by side. ![]() Next time we have to get our act together you gals, and all buy red hats or blue hats, or some hats the same, and get together - but I say VEGAS? Whatca think of that for a place to meet? I am off to watch Mz. Toontown.com this afternoon, but later tonight I plan to email you all and get you committed to a trip there for fun. See ya! |

whoa, this was amazing... you do well together, and Nan, I believe this is the first of yours I've ever read. Why don't you write more????? this.... He lived life fast and not with purity, Then found himself betrayed by his own past. So many hearts he’d broke, cast to the sea, He swore that he would never love embrace. But fate had other plans for him that day; The tides were turned and this time things would change. and this The semblance of inopportune embrace Effaced her yearning hopes of love that day. No longer rapt in trusting purity, Her dreams upon the waves had swept to sea. But how the waning tides of time can change Two hearts who long to find their cherished past. this reminded me of the painting, the woman on the beach, watching the sinking ship, and this to me, describes that painting. Marvelous write... sorry to have missed you guys, perhaps next time...happy to hear you had a great time... What, no scrabble? |

I can't even begin to tell you what a priveledge it was to write this with these two awesome poets ![]() What a wonderful visit indeed. Liz, thank you so much for your hospitality and Nan, for the challenge of that Scrabble game ( even though you tried to make up a word of your own ![]() ![]() Thank you all here for your wonderful comments on this piece but you are all under the assumption that we each wrote two consecutive stanzas...hmmmmm ![]() Hugs ![]() Ruth I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S |
