A Price to Pay for Creativity

You say you don’t have my talent for words
And am envious of a creativity I do not claim;
But I will silently disagree without a word
Because I know the truths, that hide within my heart----
A heart that is often awakened by partly cloudy skies,
While the bedside table shakes to the shudder of fan blades,
Blowing the fragrances of the morning dew from the open window,
Into my thoughts, my passions, and my hopes
As my lover sleeps beside me, satisfied for the moment,
Until the night is forgotten and life’s arguments begin---
Those fights about money, other women, alcohol...

But I will think only happy thoughts until she awakes,
Closing these eyes to the memories of taste and pleasure,
Painting on my inner eyelids a graceful ballet
Of two swan like bodies entwined in an endless song;
And to the poet, lovemaking is sustenance or a necessity---
A hunger that drips saliva onto golden parchment,
Dripping the night’s pain into the cup of pure souls…

So here is your chance to drink from a talent for words;
Sip slowly, until your stomach is bitter,
Feel the coolness then the burning of the poet’s fate
And regurgitate a life that I wish was mine…

You say you don’t have my talent for words,
But your life gives me a reason to live…

great poem

I do not need shine or wealth, just a pen and some paper for my health

Very poetic indeed.  Beautiful.
I love it thoroughly.

"Painting on my inner eyelids a graceful ballet

What a gorgeous way to SEE the moment!

I looked, and saw deeper in.
All good thoughts your way poet.
Come back and write your dreams.
