on Wednesday afternoon I dropped you off at the airport. not a tear was shed. you smiled and thought of marriage. I smiled back and rubbed my knees. I offered to help with the bags. you were fine. we parted ways with a short kiss, one of shortest we’ve ever had. I don’t remember waving goodbye as I drove away or glancing at the trouble you must have had carrying that huge packsack. I recall thinking: it’s a long drive home. |
