The easiest part
Of any war
Are all the flagged parades
Before the first barrage

And when Johnny
Comes straggling home again
Without any legs or missing an arm . . .
Who will be cheering then me boys . . .
hurrah hurrah

To go to war is to lose one's self to the worlds fight we don't hate others its the leaders that hate each other then bring us all into the war that was always pointless

"I want to know who the men in the shadows are
I want to hear somebody asking them why
They can be counted on to tell us who our enemies are
But they're never the ones to fight or to die"

     ~ Jackson Browne

Painful. Well done John.

Agree with you and all the responses.  When will we attain the civilisation of animals?  They don't have wars.  They only fight for survival of themselves and their families.  When an animal tries to invade another's territory, they don't do it in the safety of numbers of those who are not involved.  In territorial fights, the defender backs down when the attacker recedes.  The attacker instinctively knows better than to risk his/her life for something that isn't his/hers.  Man has lost his good instincts and abuses his bad ones.

It reminds me a bit of the song "Danny Boy," since it's very militaresque, and a little bit sad.  Great poem.

Sad but true poem.  I respect the Vets, some of them are the homeless.
