You know we've always, been on the outside lookin in. But no matter what may have come and gone, you've always been my friend. And come Saturday night, you might find us, down by the riverside. A campfire burning bright, a fishin pole and a case of beer. Lord knows,...we could get so tight. And we laughed together, but sometimes we cried. Sometimes we told the truth, but you know, sometimes we lied. I remember the day, you came from war, and how I prayed for you, as a little boy,... because you were my hero. Oh how I looked up to you. In my eyes you could do no wrong, fast as a cat, hard as a stone. And you were my hero. But you were on the outside, Yeah, we were both on the outside. Always on the outside, lookin in. And the rightous brothers up on the hill, they looked down on us, while they rob and steal, but we gave it away. We gave our everything. And they shook their heads as us. Yeah, they'ed shake their heads and say, "Sad...so sad." But you know, we wasn't all that bad. But we were on the outside. Laughing and cring on the outside. We were always on the outside, lookin in. And my how the years have come and gone, they've just slipped away. I guess we lived life to hard and fast, you can't find peace in a whiskey glass. And we've had to pay. Now I'm broken down, And you? You've gone away. But you were my hero, and you were always my friend. And after all this time, I've finally come to say goodbye. And the memories? Oh, they still make me smile, and they still make me cry. Because you were my hero. Because you were my friend. And because we were always, on the outside, lookin in. In memory of my life long friend Ron Witt. |

A beautiful poem, sensitive, with raw, real emotion. Had I been there, I would have preferred to be on the outside with you and your friend, than on the inside with the blind who thought they were better than you. - Owl |

funny and sad, how we don't realize the real necessities for life, until we're older and time becomes shorter and more valuable. You've written here, a priceless comodity So enjoyed the read |

Thank you all, Our friendship was tried and true. Not always smooth sailing but always strong enough to survive. Sometimes that was saying a hell of a lot. :-) |

What a heart warming tribute, I especially liked your honest to goodness approach. It's true, people will come and go in our lives, and then there are those who are there for the long haul, even after they're gone. This almost reads like a song and/or a celebration of your friends life. Thank you for sharing his memory~ |

Thank you Blues Serenade, It is a song, one of my first. And probably the most honest to goodness thing I ever did. A lot of the references have a deeper meaning that only he would understand. |

What a wonderful friendship... it seems as if being on the outside isn't so bad when one has a kindred spirit to share it with. In truth friends live on as part of us in memory and heart, be it moments or lifetimes. It does read like a song, as if you were speaking to him. I enjoyed reading this. ~ Klassy ~ |
