I wandered from my mind, almost instinctively, and began to casually drift; with no thoughts to guide me, naked and unadorned, my only recourse was acceptance, and terror did not possess me. I shut my eyes, and all around me were unfamiliar hills begging to be discovered; and everything seemed transcending. And I realized that it was faith that permitted me there; where fear had once been now only I lingered. And I was able to press on: What was to come did not concern me, and nothing determined my path. I didn't write anything in 2005, so to already have completed a poem this year is very gratifying. If you have any ideas for a title, let me know. |

I value all of your posts, and thanks to Earth Angel and dgvarner for the title suggestions; "Unfamiliar Hills" really has a ring to it. I really do hope 2006 is a better year for poetry. I became extremely self-deprecating during the course of 2005, and thought that I would never write again. I was extremely hesitant to post this poem, but the response has been elevating. Thank you. this is so powerful. i appreciate the conciseness and strength. I very much like the title too. Welcome back to writing, by the way. I once gave it up and have found it so spiritual to pick it up again. I hope the same happens for you. |

"Unfamiliar Hills" is the title I've decided to go with (thanks again, dgvarner). I'm not sure if I'm completely satisfied with the poem; there are a few lines I'm still mulling over. But, overall, I'm convinced it's my best work to date. Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream by night. |
