Once, I chanced to see a falling star go streaking through the night; And recalled the fable of "wishes", if done while still in sight. But, the glow did fade behind a cloud and did not appear again; And so, to wish upon that star, I knew would be in vain. As on I walked, I pondered upon the wish that passed me by... When I saw a tiny speck of light ahead of me did lie... "A Will O' Wisp!", I thought at first, but it was still and did not dance; Slowly, I ventured nearer, to get a closer glance. What I found was a tiny rock, far too hot to hold; After awhile the glow did fade and the pebble did grow cold. "The Star", I thought excitedly ! So, it wasn't out of sight ! Then, I placed it in my pocket... So that when I wished to wish, I might. Once, I stood at a Wishing Well. I tossed my coin and closed my eyes... When I remembered my tiny chunk of star, and it made me realize, That it would be best to save my wish. So, I filled a little jar... And I placed it in my pocket... With my tiny piece of star. And, it was some years later, when I was fortunate to find... Amid a patch of clover...One of the four-leaf kind ! I took the little clover and tucked it carefully away; Along with my little jar and star... That when I wished to wish, I may. Years flew by and I grew older...to the man I am today; Through the years, I've believed in God and to this day, do pray. But, I kept my little wish things, for I knew there'd be a time... When there would be that "special something" that I would wish were mine. Finally, the day arrived when I could wait no more. I realized, above all else, what I was longing for. I needed someone special... Someone to share my life... I wish I had someone to love ! I wish I had...a wife ! I opened up my Bible and there...pressed against a page... Was my tiny four-leaf clover, all brittle and brown with age. I took the water from the Well, that I had placed inside the jar... I said a prayer to God above and wished upon a star. God...He took each item and placed them in my wife; And sent her down to be with me...that she should share my life. The Star regained its glimmer ! The Star regained its glow ! For in the eyes of my beloved...its radiance does show. And then, upon my sweethearts lips, God placed a special treat... Moisture from the Wishing Well...so pure and Oh so sweet ! With the tiny four-leaf clover...God did a sneaky thing... To her blood...a touch of Irish ! To make life interesting. Although I used my wish things, its to God the credits due... For He fulfilled my every wish...more than I ever wished He'd do. He took my prayers and wishes and made them all come true; And sent to me...an Angel...by the name of Linda Sue ! |
