Cracked with a bonded shield The van pulled up beside me, stricken with grief As the boy with solemn eyes stared blankly out To a world that could not see him Mimicking the depressed he cornered himself To the back window, just to be alone As fighting from the front seats Incoherently dissolved into his ears Battered by the stale air of the shut off van His eyes blinded with predictions, never seemed to notice The angel at his back, pale and shrieking in silence It went quick; I almost thought it was a dream Ripped in half by the truck with no brakes And all the was left was the breath of the angel Taking the boy with the solemn eyes home |

This was very powerful...I usually like to highlight a part of the poem I like, but I can't really do that with this one. It was stong the whole way through. A factor of the poem, however, that fascinated me was the role of the speaker in the story (in the beginning and end). They give a sense of purpose to the story. Incredible! |
