Alison Maria 10 February 2006 Alison Maria beauty borne - her heart her soul of voice to sing - Music from within each ember - her glow her shine - that light upon her face - this woman of her beauty - her grace A smile to melt - a fire to burn - her destiny in awards to earn - Like blue grass in colour of pigment - fading upon the night of debonair Her heart - her being - of hair the colour of angels in fair The Lucky One - “loved by many” - “hated by none” her voice true - The next best thing to heaven in time her eyes of motherhood in spectre of rhyme Alison Maria beauty borne - that day of July in Illinois - Her voice the scent of an angel her heart beauty in musical notes of joy Born Alison Maria Krauss, 23 July 1971, in Decatur, Illinois, USA. When she was inducted in the Grand Ole Opry on 03 July 1993, it was Garth Brooks who did the honours. Such was the esteem held by her fellow professionals in all branches of Country music. Alison’s father, Fred, played guitar and her mother, Louise, played guitar and banjo. When she was 5 years old, Alison started violin lessons, playing classical music, but soon took up the fiddle. By the time she was 8, Alison had begun entering contests, taking fourth place at a county fair in Champaign, Illinois. In 1983, Alison won her first State Fiddle Championship and was named “Most Promising Fiddler in the Midwest” by the Society for Preservation of Bluegrass Music (SPBGMA) in America. In 1988 at the tender age of 17, Alison Krauss and her band, Union Station, won the Societies “National Band Championship.” And, Alison was named “Best New Talent” in Frets magazine’s Readers’ Poll. Union Station released “Two Highways for Rounder” in 1989 and the album was nominated for “Best Bluegrass Recording.” Won by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, band member, Jimmy Ibbotson said at the awards of Alison Krauss, “She’s very simply one of the best singers on the planet.” |
