Artist:Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale Paradise Found ~ Linda L. Dowd ~ In misty gloaming of bonnie brae, A lad with a fife and a drum, Hailed his love for a lovely lass, Of them all, she was the plum. O’er hill and dale he searched for her, This maiden beyond compare. She stirred his blood like no other had, Of them all, she was most fair. One glorious morn at the break of day, He found her by shore of the loch, Singing so sadly of love she had lost, As tears soaked her emerald frock. Gold rays of sun lit up her form, Dresden skin was as fair as milk. Eyes reflected the blue of the skies, And her hair was of auburn silk. She heard the sound of the beating drum, Followed by the trill of the fife. Her sadness left with the sight of the lad, For she knew he’d be part of her life. He knelt and spoke before maiden fair, Recounting each search at cock's crow. How he’d spied her once on the bonnie brae, And had searched since that mome of ago. Her cheeks flushed the rosiest pink, The sparkle returned to her eyes. He swept her up and twirled her about, For in her he had found paradise. In misty gloaming of bonnie brae, A lad with a fife and a drum, Hailed his love for a lovely lass, Of them all, she was the plum. Earth Angel, Enjoyed this a bunch! No exaggeration, paradise found! Your skill in diversity delights me--never do I know what you'll write about next, but I know it will be captivating and well written! Couldn't wait to get to the happy ending! misc'e |

Hope ~ I would love to visit Scotland! I am of Scottish and Irish blood lines, but I have never been to the British Isles. My BF is from Nottingham, England and he wants to give me the grand tour in the not too distant future! I can hear the bagpipes already! Thank you for your thoughtful reply! Warm hug and a smile, Linda |

Dear Rose of Gold ~ Oh, my! I got goosebumps reading Robbie Burns poem! Thank you for the link! Two of my great great great great great grandfathers (the son of the one married the daughter of the other)were very good friends of his and they were pall bearers at his funeral. Sometimes when I am writing I have the strangest feeling that I am not alone! lol Another curious note, the poet Robert Service ~ when he was a very young man ~ attended my great great grandfather's funeral while he was visiting Scotland. Thank you so much for the flattering and thought-full reply! Love & Poet Light, Linda [This message has been edited by Earth Angel (08-09-2005 08:16 AM).] |

A beautiful, romantic poem, Linda "She heard the sound of the beating drum, Followed by the trill of the fife. Her sadness left with the sight of the lad, For she knew he’d be part of her life." The "beating drum" is very effective here, a form of audible poetry, the reader feels the thump of stick on skin, and hears the "trill of fife... which mounts the tension...an augury of things to come. A very nice poem.... Please accept my afterthought.... In Xanadu (at last) the two remeet, He from fife and drum released; She in strong arms, twirled about- Lips on lips The taste of ripe-sweet plums... ------------ice ><> |
