I walk in steps of memories past But things have left, I thought would last The physical and real is gone Where parts of me do still belong I stand where trees are now so tall Where school once stood as I recall Bits of concrete mark the place But otherwise there is no trace I went where once the go-carts speed But now there’s paddocks there instead Some landmarks I still found the same A mailbox, and I knew the name Childhood thoughts that still do stay Things I’d lost along the way Thinking more as old I get Unawares what I forget How quickly time has taken me Friends I’ve lost and never see On thirty years I reminisce Thinking of the things I miss Are the friends I knew now gone? In my mind they still belong Might they ever think of me? And wonder what the now would be Years go by, but we return To embers that within still burn That warm the heart and tempt the mind Until a trace is there to find Then contented we may lay As the thoughts of once display Happy that we have what’s been Stored away but rarely seen |

Had an opportunity to visit "home" last year... and for the reasons above, that and more, is why we grow memories in our hearts. A triple day of joy... I'm off to read your next. |
