Based on a farewell note found on the body of Martin Toler Jr.

Trapped
with my brothers
we do what we’re told
but it’s been hours...

And I know

I know I don’t have time
left on my side
I grab what I can

It wasn’t bad

I want them to know
my last thoughts were of them
and that my crossing
was not one of pain
of anguish
it was peaceful
and there is nothing to fear

I just went to sleep

I do weep
but only for those left
I try not to judge
though I know
I’ve been done wrong
we should be out by now
it should have never happened
in the first place

But now.. I think of them
my loved ones
for thoughts of revenge
of pain
do nothing now

my last thoughts
are of them
of our love
of a life I lived
and what I leave behind

I see them on the other side

I see it, it’s not far now..

I love you

Music pours over the sense
And in a funny way
Music sees more than I..it remembers better...
I have forgotten all the rest-Anne Sexton

Oh, my, I just finished watching a special on this tragedy on Primetime Live. So very, very sad. Such hard working, family loving people. Bless their brave hearts - each and every one of them.
Very well written piece.
hugs, Chris

Lifting them up in prayer
As their loved one's would want
So that they may be close
Instead of distant and distraught

A sad time, indeed.  You wrote beautifully in regards to this tragedy.

I am so deeply affected by your poem and his words and the travesty of it all, that I can scarcely key my response ~ so I will now pray for the departed and for the loved ones they left behind...

Love & Everlasting Light,

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
