Barren and still like
one light shines in solitude
empty parking lots
disappearing so quickly
no traces left of mankind

Gray mist thickening
shadows rising in the fog
bereft of all sound
echoes of yesterday fade
unbroken silence, lingers.

seek the flame within yourself
and let your soul be cleansed by
the fire of love.  Axel Ekenstierna

You captured this silence and emptiness so very well, dear Donna, I felt like standing there surrounded by the melancholy of the scene.

Yet, in the lingering silence, we also can find peace.

You convey this too.

Love,
Margherita

Donna, your photo is hauntingly beautiful! ~ as is your poem.

A sense of desolation and emptiness permeates your well-written tankas.

May 2006 be a year of wonderful new beginnings. ~ You certainly deserve that after the year you just had!

Warm, loving hug,
Linda

I agree with the others, this was hauntingly beautiful and a bit like standing by the ocean at 3am watching the pull of the waves to the moon's call.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
