Hear the tunes of the old grey house It'll keep you awake at night Come along and listen closely You'll hear a child screaming Who left the light on? And the door wide open? Who left the kettle burning whistling on its own? She heard a window break, and a whimper soft and shallow Although the house stood silent there was tension in the air She climbed into the cupboard closed the door and turned the lock slid onto the floor, curled and shaking as blue tears stained her eyes Who left the light on? and the door wide open? who left the kettle burning left to whistle on its own? Her sobs are silenced, a red head drops fists curled and by her sides come along and listen closely You'll hear a child screaming |

Beautiful in its haunting pain. This sounds like an abused child. - Owl |

thank you for all your warm comments. As I don't usually get that from people I'm constantly surprised when people say they liked it. It is quite lovely. Yes this poem is from both personal experiences and dreams I've had where no ones come but there's lights on, like someone had been sitting there a second before I opened the door. kind of reminds me of santa claus. creepy. hugs. xxxxxxxxx farewell the ash-tray girl |
