Where no tyranny is tolerable

Time

The moving finger writes ...
The great cosmic chronometer
ticks ... ticks ... ticks ... ticks ...
as it has done for countless eons before us,
as it will do for countless eons after us.
And there is no reason to doubt
that perhaps a million years from now,
though Earth Might be a blasted, lifeless rock,
and the human dynasty has passed
or gone to seed,
that the Earth will still be spinning,
and the same tides, still be sweeping,
and the seasons, still ebbing and flowing,
the glaciers, still coming and going,
and the Sun, still rising and setting,
and the Moon, still waxing and waning,
and the stars,
still tracing their ecliptic arcs
through astronomic spans of Time
and space ...

I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.
