Discerning
Rags from fashion,
Fit and taste,
A decking for flair and passion

Feel the warmth, the
Easing weave
Sliding between  fingers
Sensing near complete

It’s memory cloth, elastic
Retaining time, faces,
Would-not-be
    forgotten places
Making touchable
Times, sensations
Words of long ago.

Closet full.
Spaceless.

Sunshine,

It's good to hear from you again!  Like you, I have 'stuff' in my closet with which I just can't part!  Maybe someday...  My wonderful daughter finally did it!

As the quarter begins, she cleaned out her badly needed closet, tossing many of the things I remember as special.  One included a gorgeous gown I made her for her first formal dance.  I can understand the color is no longer trendy and...the full slip kept falling down, tee hee.  Whether the garment rests snuggly in her closet now or not, there are hilarious memories attached to that slip!  I'll have to write a poem for her someday about the evening of the slip-up.

Thanks for dropping by!

You know, they make those space saver bags now - not just the ones on t.v. - I have Coleman brand for camping.  Sure does squish down alot of stuff and make room for more.  Sure the closet is full?

Great write.  I like the comparrison here - one I wouldn've thought.  You did it nicely and accurately.

The touch of things is so much more special as a memory than the mere sight of them....to just close your eyes and let your skin remember...oh yes! Who needs eyes at a time like that? I just love the way you've captured it here, used it to turn this poem into a thing of beauty.

I know people who take  the pieces of clothing from childhood and make a memory quilt that eventually they give to their adult child when he/she moves away from home...can hang on the wall or over a chair..

I am busy cleaning out my own closets..and  I have those space saving bags...many of them in fact

Happy New Year, Misc

Jeep Monkey, froggy, Ratleader, iliana, late arrival, and nakdthoughts,

Thank you for stopping by and relating your thoughts to mine.  The bags sound like a really good idea, as does the lap throw or quilt.  I've saved all the sewing scraps from ever, sew it seams. Just have to develop a case of cabin fever to motivate myself to begin that quilt!  No, those quilts!

Here's wishing you great happiness this year!   Wow!  Can we already be here in 06?

Enjoyed your lovely poem greatly, dear Misc! Sometimes it's hard to give away things, but when I finally decide, I am so happy about the new space and I never regret what's gone.

For you:

An open closet
communicates in silence
stories of the past

Happy New Year, with lots of new space to fill with happiness!

Love and hugs.

I was in the hospital for several weeks during our move to this house. I had asked my daughters to downsize my wardrobe because my walk-in closet was going to be smaller and I wouldn't have room for all my clothes. Weeeelllll, that was a biiiiiggggg mistake! They threw out many of my favs and kept my throw aways!!! lol God love them! They did their best under difficult circumstances ~ and it was a chance for them to give away my low-cut, leopard print top with the poet sleeves! lol

Enjoyed your poem, misce! I love your little snippets of life slices!

In 2006 may you make wonderful memories for your tomorrows!
