So weak, the skin seared by that which cannot be seen, only felt in it’s aftermath of punishment. Leaving the blush of red for it’s calling card. Felt so tenderly as it slowly simmers the basting of SPF that prolongs the inevitable. It comes on silent wings, laughing deliriously, hauntingly. It knows he cannot win the race of time as each cell absorbs and slowly changes as his gaze and light prying touch brings forth yet another foe in the battle that rages on into the dawning of another day.... If only he had listened to his own thoughts....Now he only hears the mocking whisper...”I told you so.” (Written after another visit to the surgical suite in a continuing battle against skin cancer.) PS: I am recovering nicely....so, rest well....and think about those tanning booths, long days on the beach, etc.... Keep a close eye on the little ones, their skin needs protection more than ever.... |
