. Once an egg is broken, it can never be replaced. Once a word is written, it can never be erased. Once a shoe has worn out, its usefulness has, too And one of the things of knowing love Is knowing when it's through. Once a flower has wilted, its fragrance disappears Once a word is spoken, it will echo through the years. Once a match has burned out, it will never flame anew And one of the things of knowing love Is knowing when it's through. Funny all the time spent on half-forgotten dreams. Funny all the energy we waste on foolish schemes. We wouldn't strike that matchstick to watch it flame anew, Why, then, can't we know enough To know when love is through? So, on we go, relentlessly, in spite of tears and pain Trying to stop the leaves from falling Trying to stop the rain, But, once a heart is broken, it will always be in two, And one of the things of knowing love Is knowing when it's through. (big angel hugs) Oh Michael, this is soooooooo true, for the first time I ever truly loved someone, which was a fellow poet on this site and probably was very naive from the start as most internet romances are, it hurt me so deeply that I had to let it go, and I knew I had to let go, and while my heart yearns ever sooooooo much to hold the hand of a special extraordinary girl to walk the world with, I knew it was right for me to let go, for it would have been selfish to myself otherwise! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, well we certainly appear to be the audio chanticleers here, don't we, LOL, I'm sooooooooo blessed to hear your pure, earnest voice, dearest friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Quite possibly one of the most beautiful poems I've ever read and an instant favorite. I may be new here, but that was simply stunning. It made perfect logical sense that we can all relate to, and did so with amazing beauty. That's the type of poetry I love - fusion of logic and beauty. And even though love may not be logical, your poem certainly is. Nice job! |

I'm kind of with Martie on this one... but then, rumor has it I don't know when to leave. I don't believe I ever bought a pair of walking shoes in my life. (Had some given as gifts though.) Unless you count the stilletos. I do like to look [nice] walking OUT the door. |

I'm inclined to believe that real love is never "through" but that's not to say that I didn't enjoy this tremendous poem of yours. It is indeed an excellent write and one it was a pleasure to read. Thank you. Helen |

"I have been around long enough to know that, what ever love we receive from others should be treated as a cherished gift. Sometimes it is time to go on , for what ever reason. We need to learn to let that other person go unselfishly. When it is time for someone to die it is only our selfishness that clings to their life. The same if it is time for them to move on in other ways. Just my opinion." given to explain my poem ~ The Door to Love ~ Enjoy what it gave and if for any reason, death , illness or whatever, we should just let go and keep the memories that were good. But not let it define our life. martyjo |

It may never happen that you will visit me Deer, but at least your voice came all the way through to my little place in The Netherlands and it spoke sad, but beautiful words. Titia Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |
