To have weathered the storm and emerged, set adrift
on this ocean of white rolling waves, former hills.
Stretching far as the eyes can remember to see
purely radiant light gives the spirit a lift.

Conjured images dance in the bluster and blow,
as entranced, I observe the most intricate play,
of these ghosts been recalled, crystals caught in the wind,
phantom partners that sweep 'cross a ballroom of snow.

Just a trick of the light in this winter begun,
this White Mass that's performed for believers to see.
Elemental, it spans throughout recorded time,
one more cycle as yet man has not made undone.

To have partnered in this many times, far from cursed,
as there surely are fates that are known to be worse.
