Christmas Elves

There’s silence on the streets this morn
While humans grab what’s left of sleep
Blankets of darkness wait to lift
As tiny feet on sidewalks creep

With coned hats topped by golden bells
That tinkle as they skip along
They dress in green from head to toe
Singing forgotten Christmas songs

Smiles light faces of Christmas Elves
Approaching a home with no lights
They know that those who live inside
Will fill this house with squealed delights

With silent speech they place the prize
Upon the step for kids to find
Then climb on backs to reach the door
And knock to wake up humankind

They scatter like the windswept leaves
To hide close by and watch the fun
Shining eyes watch beneath the bush
The Christmas magic that’s begun

The light comes on, they hold their breath
The door squeaks open, silence reigns
A heartfelt gasp now fills the air
Laughter’s tempo from voices gains

Family gathered round exclaims
Over baskets filled with delights
Color packages wrapped with love
Sparkling joy that ignites

Happiness makes a house a home
As they share love this winter day
Brought by magic this time of year
From Christmas Elves who fade away

Yup Karen a delightful Christmas write. Wish I had little ones around to share with.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Karen,  this is certainly one for reading
around a fire with a bunch of bright eyed
little ones absorbing every syllable.

Good to see ya again.  Merry Christmas to
you and all of your family.
