A dozen or more plastic soldiers cast in heroic attitudes bayoneted rifles in their hands an almost ancestral bicycle the little metal samovar dishes cups and bowls the shaggy dog in the small front yard a wading pool and set of swings Flowered dresses On the window sill a doll with braided hair |

A mere thirteen of green plastic Standing against childhood foes Too soon to attack imagination, And winning reality. A tricycle painted in rust of years Abandoned for two wheels Then four, Piled in the rubbish heap. A tired dog doesn’t bark Too many has ignores him None come except the birds To peck at ants by the fence A doll from her crib Sits on a pillow of her bed Still cuddled during thunderstorms But bedridden by age. snaphots of scenes that are emblazoned on the heart and mind, imagery that bleeds humanity and for the children, I cringe...at that refrain 'suffer the litle children to come unto me'...and all that goes with such phrases that keep my feet as far away as possible from houses of 'worship' |
