As a sheet unfolds and softly falls,
so does the night.  Silently, ever
gently releasing the glow of day
and capturing the shadow’s cloak
that spreads as would an ink
droplet on fine cloth.

A moment of the earth’s rotation when
birds cling to settling branches, and
ripples succumb to a mirror of stars.
When owls blink and herons drink, and
the Alpha awaits Omega's call.

And as the moon climbs skyward, somewhere
beyond the frost of a breath....then and only
then can peace bring slumber to lids that
close the mind’s doors, just before the
sterling comet falls.
