Dormant now the plains do lay,
As harvest moon has gone its way,
Autumn from the prairies fled,
With barren trees their leaves now shed,
Frost’s crystal flakes kiss flowers faded,
A landscape brown with spirits jaded,
Winter’s chill on north wind’s calling,
Portends the depths of snowflakes' falling
Man and beast heed cold’s arrival,
Seeking shelter for survival,
From the bite of arctic chill,
To hibernate; cacooned until,
Persophones from purgatory,
Returns to earth in springtime’s glory.

First blast of winter, ack.
Saw on the news last night that fifty miles west of Sunshine they closed the interstate due to a blizzard.  Fifty miles to the east they closed the interstate because of a thunderstorm and a tornado.
Gotta love Kansas.

Gotta love Kansas...
and all its whimsical ways...

from the West we've snow, while
in the east, tornados lay...

but somewhere in the middle
where the sun was TRYING to shine...

why there laid laden raindops,
in buckets, some times nine....

OH Kansas....
where the heart of Justice reigns...

where black was white,
and white laid down
in the blood, in
the hearts of cowtown....

Oh Kansas....

where limbs now bared
raise arms to blue
and God is thick
in prayers renewed....

and flickering lights
lift a hope from the sod....
just as there is Santa...

so be there, his God.

Ah, Tim...

Thank you Sir....

I've been needing an outlet.

Shine on, Sir.

Well done, Tim......

No plains here in northern Pa., just mountain valleys that funnel the wind...
Late November indeed tells that Persophone has returned to live in the underworld..

and Kari...sweet Kansas girl...your addition makes Tims poem all the more effective...

God, I love this place,
That makes creative juices flow-
In poems that ring Pavlovian bells
Causing minds to salivate,
And serve up other dinner plates
Of prose and poems..

Darn it's cold ...is right. Same here.

Loved the poem, and the responses....served on a dinner plate of poetry.
