I know not which of us
has chosen this path
for many times have I been guilty
of denying guidance,
but no matter now the choosing
for it is before me and must be
traversed.

Let me not now fear
demons concealed
in the shadows,
nor let the rough places
bruise badly.
And if complaints find my lips
let them disintegrate softly
into gratitude for your constant
watching.

Teach me when to hold high
the lamp of Your word,
and when to climb silently under
Your protective cover.
Most of all Lord
through the trespass of this darkness
write on my heart that it is You alone
who grants safe passage.

Psalms 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters.  He restores my soul: He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.  Yea, thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.  Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows with blessings.  Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah for ever.

I be honest and say
I'm not big on prayers . . .
But this is so very well done.

With your permission, I would like
to add it to my collection of poems
by others.

If yes, what name shall I give the author?

John

serenity...thank you...I hesitated to post, as it is so personal to my situation, but then I thought it might help another, thank you for letting me know it did

Huan, thank you, a lot of times my poems form themselves into prayers, especially when my spirit is seeking answers

James thank you

I need to write these lines on my mirror... that they might follow me through each day.

Excellent write!!

this was a lovely prayer...and reminded me of a very good movie I watched last evening...it contains the same powerful feeling of great compassion with a profound underlying message...
