A South African Prayer for the Congo 18 July 2005 Tiny child sorcerers who are demonised by the horror, talk of dark night killings and eating human flesh. Nihilistic warlords darken the days of the people. Isolation exploitation jungle heat and disease of body and spirit reduce bare existence to exactly that and yet . . . and yet . . . the river flows the forests flourish and the song of the human spirit trembles and grows . . . Let the instruments of death feel the pain and bury the dead with honour. Let the maimed hearts and bodies find solace. May Kurz’s muddled, muddied Heart of Darkness be delivered to the Sunrise of Hope. Let the cycle be broken. Let all be resolute and free for my humanity cannot be separated from yours. - Owl |

Thanks Earth Angel, Martie and ice. Yes, it is unbelievable what we humans do to our fellow humans, as Robert Burns so aptly put it when he referred to "Man's inhumanity to Man". Animals don't do these things. May we one day be as civilised as animals. - Owl |

"the river flows the forests flourish and the song of the human spirit trembles and grows . . ." For obvious personal reasons, that part is dear to my heart. I have been reading about Africa and her struggles of late, and I am now completely enthralled with her history, strength and cougrage. Not to mention the grace of the people. You can't know how hard their lives are--not judging by their smiles. I'd like to be like that. You brought me there m'friend. Thank you. |

Thank you, Susan. Yes, and that is how the problem is too. Thank you, Serenity Blaze. I think that you are courageous to have handled the floods and all the other horrors, that seem to me be (almost) worse than the floods. Africa is a magical place. Many of the countries have severe hardships. You talk about the smiles of the black people. Wait till they open their mouths and sing! Nightingales take the second row. I'm glad I could bring you to Africa, Serenity Blaze, on my owl wings. Thank you, Enchantress, for enjoying my poem. - Owl |
