"But this is human life:  the war, the deeds,
The disappointment, the anxiety,
Imagination's struggles, far and nigh,
All human; bearing in themselves this good,
That they are still the air, the subtle food,
To make us feel existence, and to shew
How quiet death (really) is."
John Keats-from Endymion, Book II, l.153-159.

Wake your imagination
Accept a while your emptiness
Acknowledge spirit

Actively gather love close
Touch those near and touch the earth

Think hard about loss
On its own level always
Reaffirm healing

Speak to yourself of your thoughts
Let your ego host your soul

Think of how you've changed
Go slow, do not act quickly

Go  through, not around
Stir your imagination
Build from emptiness

Seek the spirit of the heart
Make prose reference

Look hard towards the past
Note how far you've really come
Affirm, where you've been

Tidy the house of your soul
Admit your duality

Know the soul does not
Thrive well on explanation
But tell it stories

Reject final solutions
Know the soul is poetic

Feel pains rough texture
Accept the richness of it
Do not abstract it

Do not reach above it all
To balance what you have lost

Feel the existence of Keats

Dapyun

Thank you for reading...and the reply

This poem, in actuality was inspired by jennirey...Her poem "My body moves on"
Moved me in a most profound way...

It made me recall Keats..so it goes with inspiration..

Oh, this is really beautiful Ford.
I've read a lot of Keats, and have also read jennirey's heartfelt touching writes about the loss of her friend.
You do both an honor with this peaceful piece.

Hello ice,
Keats a favorite that begins the poem. Hard to believe Keats only lived
to be in his 20's and he wrote his own grave line of
"Here lies one whose name was writ in water."
An inspirational write from Keats and ice!
Words to live and die by!  Have you ever thought what you would write if you had to write one line for your graveline? Thanks for your words and bringing Keats  to life!

That last line...makes the entire poem for me. All the rest good and some of your lines excellent. Keats though...always a special place in me for him.

Thank You Martie

Balance, is to me a very religious word-I should say spiritual..To keep things balanced in a tilted world is very hard...it is more like keeping an even strain on things by use...the environment, love , hate, your mind etc.

Strange, how poetry balances me when I get overburdened...when the darkside of the moon shows more than the bright..

Happy New year...

Ford, such a wonderful poem to read on the first day (well, actually, it's after midnight, so I guess the 2nd day) of the new year.  Thanks for sharing it.  Happy 2006!   ....jo

I shall have to tack this on my wall and read it daily.

*smile*

I love it in its entirety, but especially here:

Look hard towards the past
Note how far you've really come
Affirm, where you've been

Tidy the house of your soul
Admit your duality

Know the soul does not
Thrive well on explanation
But tell it stories

Ford,

I could have copied the entire poem!  Such articulate thinking!  Especially liked this one, because as I child I was told to "go around the wall."  Now I see the wisdom of another choice!

  "Go  through, not around
   Stir your imagination
    Build from emptiness"

Very, very much enjoyed this keeper!

Just a beautiful poetic gem of positive philosopical advice and so well presented.
