I Wish I Could Have Been There

The soft breeze sailed across the desert sky,
welcoming news of the Savior born
to waiting shepherds tending flocks.
I wish I could have been there for that.

And while the angel sang to them,
the Eastern star shown bright,
dancing in that fragrant breeze.
I wish I could have been there for that.

While shepherds traveled in silver hue,
the magi followed, too,
beyond the borders of Jerusalem.
I wish I could have been there for that

The evil ploy begot by Herod
to rid himself a King,
implored the magi to report the Christ.
I wish I could have been there for that.

Off they journeyed to the City of David
where the evening star did rest,
and found the Christ laying in a manger.
I wish I could have been there for that.

They met the shepherds in the stable
at the manger of our King,
and fell to their knees in worship of Him.
I wish I could have been there for that

They pledged their gifts to Savior born
of gold, frankincense and myrrh,
and sang praises to our Lord and God.
I wish I could have been there for that.

Mary and Joseph sat among them
marveling at the tiny King
wrapped in linen and comforting them.
I wish I could have been there for that

The wise men never reported Christ
to Herod the King himself,
who paced the palace floor enraged.
I wish I could have been there for that.

Hallelujah! We sing to all in the house of Immanuel.
God is with us! Christ our King,
was born on Christmas Day!
I wish that you could be here for that.
