Among ruins All bones Worms Oblivious mice The same As those who stayed home And yet if only for this It was worth the price To say at least When the time came The hour found them Defying death And just perhaps For their sacrifice The world was made A better place Where more men Would never have to go To gain a life That is worth it all So pause for those Who fell before the wall Or on some distant battlefield You in bed Who having read these words Now go to sleep Under gentle gods |
