The bird did land in timely fashion
bringing forth a gush of passion.
The need to write of Nevermore
The want to shut the friggin’ door.

A tap was heard three times so light
beyond the glow of lantern bright.
Perhaps a friend to sip a brew
or stir a quart of raven’s stew.

A kettle boiled upon the stove
as onward in the night they drove.
Desirous a bald butted bird,
Again, again....that tap was heard.

They drove until the car did stop
for gas was gone to it’s last drop.
Coasting till they came upon
a lighted booth, a telephone.

A call was made to Nine One One
A cry for help, please send a gun.
Another tap again was heard.
Oh please dear Lord, remove this bird.

His shadow loomed so tall and dark
upon the stones beneath their park.
An eye of orange, a head coal black..
Wearing Camo for his own attack.

Ten shots were fired into the sky
until they heard a faint bird’s cry.
And now they sat and raised a toast
“Nevermore” was their faint boast.

For in the sky was seen a shape
of one black bird that did escape.
Destined to knock once more again
and who would one think next will win?
