I have seen— suffering
And would be ashamed to claim
More pain than they

Who walk through life
Like silent ghosts
Marking time until an end

They dream of when
The sun will shine
The sky not seem at dusk
So red with blood

Where air is welcomed
In the lungs
Beside a heart
That is not dead
