...and now finally you understand what never could be said, until now when words are wasted on the dead, so many things go hand in hand on life’s sad twisting trails along the water’s edge of life where sifting sand fills scales of justice and grains of truth aren’t what you’d thought, where beliefs for which you’d fought and clutched too desperately are less than shadows made by drifting smoke blown in the wind; thanks for the songbird singing just outside my open door, where it should have been afraid, where it had never sung before, come now to say you’re freed from pain; funny that it made me sit and watch the time to check how long it took for my call to be made to tell me you were gone. Our little secret, your’s and mine, now fades quietly in history where it belongs, where there are no reasons left to cry, stored away with little quiet songs thoughts sung by a startled bird, in simple notes of last goodbye. ©2005 by icebox [This message has been edited by icebox (10-16-2005 12:11 AM).] |

"and grains of truth aren’t what you’d thought, where beliefs for which you’d fought and clutched too desperately are less than shadows made by drifting smoke" Especially liked these lines, Mr. C. You are such a generous writer and your gifts are much esteemed. ![]() When I first read the title, I thought of the song..."Goodnight Irene." Can't remember all the words I heard in my childhood, but it was something about "Goodnight Irene. I'll see you in my dreams," I think. |

Icebox "and now finally you understand what never could be said, until now when words are wasted on the dead," So often this is true, and I know so many things I will finally understand when I'm dead, but not sure wasted there, but gaining new insight. Your poem made me feel sad...I hope that you are alright. ![]() |

Back with a final thought from a poem of mine: When a spirit is set free across the chasm there is a breeze that nibbles ripples into the lake even when breath is unplugged it holds a minute to navigate the loss and plant a pulse so quick that robins in cocking head turn in sweet bewilderment Listen to the dreams that come when you are open to dimension and time spreads itself and you will know that love has no boundaries and that it understands forgiving before your tear has left its small circumference on the pillow |
