Daddy
teach me magic please.

What do you mean my child?
…like pulling quarters from your ears,
or banishing the monsters
who bring your nighttime fears,
or card tricks to make you laugh,
or the water glass trick
when the water disappears?

No Dad!
I mean real magic.
…like when you call a storm,
or ask me to name an animal
the first that pops into my head
then make the clouds
form the very thing I said,
…like asking lightning for a show
and having it come close
until I scream for it to go,
…like telling me the weather
a whole year in advance,
or making rainstorms go away
with just a skyward glance,
you know that it isn’t chance;
I know I’ve seen the flowers dance
when you smile at them in your special way.

Some day, Linka,
someday perhaps you will remember
what you’ll know you learned
before,
real magic's door is not belief;
there are no mystery reasons in these things,
listen closely
when the chime rings the next time
we greet the changing of the seasons;
sometimes
real magic isn’t making things occur
it’s leaving things the way they were
before you see the way
that things could be,
knowing
that it’s never free to turn the world
a private way,
accepting there will always be
a private price to pay.

Wow!  You are wisdom personified.

"real magic isn’t making things occur
it’s leaving things the way they were
before you see the way
that things could be,
knowing
that it’s never free to turn the world
a private way,
accepting there will always be
a private price to pay."

Tremendous writing but second only to the thought.

"accepting there will always be
a private price to pay"

Sometimes that is the lesson hardest to learn.

I don't know magic, but I think my children thought I did.  For them a kiss from their mom, stopped pain.  A cheer from the sidelines, helped them win the game.  So, I think that real magic, is love.  I'll bet you do too!

Magic is everywhere. Especially in your poetry! Much enjoyed. Chris

icey,

I met her last night, she came upon the Autumn breeze and rattled my wind chimes, speaking to me - blowing my hair and making me slightly frightened, in a good way, in wonder.

Which is exactly where I was meant to stay, in wonder.

to read
from one
who's wisdom
lights a soul

Hmmm... I never believed in magic.  But I always wanted to.  Maybe you have the secret here.

Great write...and wisdom, icebox.

Perhaps the greatest magic would be to walk through life...without leaving a mark.

(except offspring...LOL).

Are you talkin' to me?

*chuckle*

I messed with the weather once and that was lesson enough. (The Yeti will vouch for me on this'n.)

But sometimes...shifts happen.

Need to find a repost for ya my friend.

This year? It was not me, I tell ya!
