Night Flight

Be something else, I try to shout
at the moon-checkered floor.
My voice clings; I can't say "Be magic;
bring a fairy hoe-down to make this surreal.”
If I put my feet into you, moonshine
would you hold me, or drop me like a cloud
into some bin no moon can reach?

You took them somewhere, take me too,
to somewhere far and wonderful; voyage me
out over the lawn and the cracked yard wall,
Yes, pull me to some comfortable height,
let the hook in my heart pull me away home,
the city spreading under me like a virgin map.

Oh I am full of distance, the unfolding net
of street lamps and the coruscating signals --
It is where we go, moonlight and me, and
I take it because it flies my soul, it takes me
because I can bend it like optic fiber, bring it
from the razor straight of light alone

Yes it is more now, more than moonlight
dancing off the floor, more than dreams awake,
say feral madness that I will, but only when it will....
oh it is so very, very more.

Exquisite, magical... I lack the words to do this justice... but oh... how I enjoy! *S*

You capture it so well!  May the moonshine always be with you, my friend.  You radiate such enery and passion in Night Flight!  An amazing piece of writing here, Ed.

Oh thank you Misc! I love late hits -- the ones that come when I think a poem has gone away, but someone runs across it back in the pages, and likes it well enough to bring it back to life....especially a poem like this, that tore itself out of me, and still rattles my ribs with the memory when I read it....but which fell unnoticed by the wayside when I posted it.

I love the early responses, but I relish the late ones!

Ed,

I'm glad I found it!  When I browsed your poetry, I looked for the poems with the least responses.  I figured that perhaps like my poetry, your favorites get the fewest responses.

   Over and out, Good Buddy!

I thought I had replied to this.  If I did, and it just isn't appearing for me, I don't remember what I said, so at least it won't be a duplicate (my problem lately!).

I love this more with each reading, and with each reading I see what the night flight is differently - evening-dreaming in the moonlight - an actual dream - wishes ...
Thank you for the pleasure of your experience.

Spoiling me, you are! I'm sure you know that this is one of my favorites, though it's not so  understandable as some of my other work....yep, spoiled I am! Thank you!
