How Long Does it Take? How long does it take for a heartache to end? How easy for pieces of heart break to mend? As easy as making a rainbow unbend How long does it take to stop feeling alone? How long will you ponder the misty unknown ? As long as the sea birds through breezes are blown How long to undo ocean’s mightiest stream? For a star to remember an unanswered dream? For the light in your eyes to remember to gleam? How many years for the teardrops to yield? As long as moon shadows dance over the field As long a it takes for a heart to be healed How long does it take to forget and forgive ? Forgiving is tossed in the sands that you sieve To forget takes the rest of the days that you live Elizabeth Santos |

forgiving ones self is hardest to do. forgiving others isnt hard, for most anyway. even when things could not be kept from happening, you still blame yourself. but even harder for ones who live in denial worlds, and change everything to something it is not so to blame another or not have to deal with own issues. nice writing My spirit will rise |

Reminiscent of Bob Dylan's "Blowing in the Wind." You've phrased a beautiful version of the unanswerable question. Well done! Ken Through rubble and trouble and dark of night |

I think that the last two lines are the best in the poem, since they are less rhetorical and more directly addressed in the form of conclusion. It reminds me a lot of the Book of Job, when God is rebuking Job's complaint to Him. There's a kind of hopelessness, but also a lack of control or power---the fact that forgetting takes the rest of your life, means that forgetting is impossible, but you express it ironically and with an almost cynical attitude. I have to wonder how personal this poem is. Enjoyed reading. Brian |
