Granma lived in a little cottage, on a little hill. Flowers of every kind filled her yard and window sill.
Dandelions, daisies, daffodils..roses...buttercuups...and Well... she had a lot. But my most special favorite, favorite, was...te he..her touch-me-nots.
Granma said,"Don't touch these Steve...or they'll explode." Now ain't that kinda like telling a little boy, don't pick up a toad?
I guess granma figured that out, cause she started watching me like a hawk. Dog-gone-it, if I didn't know better, I'd say those touch-me-nots could talk.
Steve...Steve...I could hear them calling me from the front porch swing. Granma's warning just disappeared from my head, I just...kinda...forgot, it didn't mean a thing.
I started with the daffodils, I bent down and took a great big sniff. I edged my way on over like I was on the edge of a cliff.
"Oh! What some pretty roses." I heard myself say, as granma turned her lazer beam eyes, and looked my way.
She smiled her approval, at the observation I had made. So I sniffed and I sniffed and I admired and I admired until granma's attention began to fade.
"Whew! How did it get so hot?" I wondered, as granma's exploding touch-me-nots I pondered.
Almost there...alllmost there, I thought as I slid my sneakers a sneaky slide. Look out touch-me-nots, there's nowhere for you to hide.
I forgot all about granma, in my touch-me-not exhiliration. So when I reached my hand out, I was caught in hurricane granma's rotation.
The moral of this story could be told in many ways, but to do granma justice it would take me many days.
So let me, if you will, boil it down to one more jot.
DO NOT, DON'T EVER, NEVER, WHATEVER YOU DO BOYS AND GIRLS, DON'T TOUCH YOUR GRANMA'S TOUCH-ME-NOTS!

Steve, this is a cute poem. It reminded me of when my daughter was little and she was staying with my Mom while I was working.
My Mother's camelia bush was full of little blooms. Tonia was about 5 years old. She went out there and picked a whole section of them off before my Mom caught her. Mama wasn't too happy, but she just told her not to do it anymore. I don't think Tonia ever did it again, so Mama must have told her in the right way. LOL
Thanks for sharing your poem. Hugs, Ethel

OhSweetFriend~ This made me smile a soft smile of remember~ Fortunately for me I had only had ONE grandma who was a 'touch-me-not' type ... (she grew Coleus ... and I don't have to wonder WHY I've never liked Coleus) ... other grandmother made sure that I could touch anything and everything within my reach~ That is the kind of ~Poet Grandma~ I try to be to my precious little grandie girlies~
LOL ... I LOVE it when they pick the flowers and then quite literally pick them to PIECES~
You share such beauty from your heart ... thank you~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~~*When the heart grieves over what it has lost, the spirit rejoices over what it has left. - Sufi epigram <))><

What a delight this is! *S*
I remember one of my worst mistakes was when I was about 5 years old... not just ignoring my grandmother but daring her to do something about it. *G* She did... and while I made many other mistakes, that was one I made sure I NEVER repeated! LOL

Steven The "touch me not" (jewel weed) is a wildflower here in Pa. It is a fun plant to touch, for kids and grownups who are kids at heart.
The best time to touch it is when the seed pod forms, it is spring loaded..when you touch it it throws seeds several feet, like a starburst...
Once you have done this, ya just gotta touch it again ...it is such fun....
enjoyed your poem...

As I recall, it was a forbidden snowbank... "Stay OUT of that snowbank, Nancy - You'll get totally drenched!" I never could figure out how she knew I climbed it anyway...

LOL Just too much temptation for a little boy. My grandson took a toy sword and brandished it against his mortal foe -- my favorite rose bush--a yellow 49er. He nearly annihilated it! I did get after him.
I'll have to write a story about the roses. or a poem, if I can get it to work. ~Klassy
