He was born in month of May, …upon a mountainside, In a house built of white pine, …overlooking valley wide, No brothers nor a sister nee, …no friend with which to play, He wandered in the wilds alone, …in search to find his way, He journeyed far and journeyed wide, …yet found not what he sought, Of what he yearned and so he walked …until one day was brought, To a far and distant knoll, …to where he saw her first, Walking in the fields alone, …sweet wine to sate his thirst. She was born in month of June, …in a cottage by the sea, the eighth of nine, all sisters they, …no brothers would there be, She never left her seaside home, …but often walked alone, Through the moors and distant lea, …in search of loves unknown, She would listen to the evening breeze, …and wish upon a star, That one day he would appear, …her stranger from afar. One night she walked upon the lea …beneath a distant knoll, And came upon a mountain lad, …each other’s heart they stole. Upon a far and distant knoll, ...encased in Luna's glow, Sings fair maiden of the lea, ...unto lush fields below, Calling out to evening's breeze, ...take me in your arms, And carry me to heaven's far, ...enwrapped within your charms, Far beyond the oceans deep, ...beyond the mountains high, Until we reach the Southern Cross, ...and with the angels fly. No answer from lush fields below, ...as silent lays the night, A rising mist from forth the moor, ...erases heaven's light. Upon the cheek of maiden fair, ...a solitary tear, 'Mid haunting echoes of her call, ...too soft for mortal ear. Where have you gone, my gentle wind, ...do not you hear my song? Am I forsaken by my love, ...forever shall I long? From out the mist, comes whispered breath, ...forever you'll be mine, Your beauty is rare chalice gold, ...filled with the sweetest wine, I've searched four corners of the earth, ...to sate my passion's fire, On a far and distant knoll, ...have found my heart's desire. Take my hand and sail with me, ...unto the stars above, As I whisper in your ear, ...you are my life, my love. Young lovers walk 'neath slivered moon, ...on a sultry summer eve, In meadow lush, beneath far knoll, ...seeking wind's reprieve. A fog ascends from nearby moor, ...and swallows strolling pair, Blotting out the stars above, ...with suffocating air. Lost within dark wall of mist, ...canyon of the night, Calling out for evening's breeze, ...return of heaven's light. A cooling breeze from forth the south, ...sweeps away dark mist, Young lovers feel of cooling wind, ...as by its freshness kissed. In sky above the stars are freed, ...to shine their heavenly grace, Beneath the glow of Luna's orb, ...in passion, pair embrace As gaze upon the Southern Cross, ...in welkin sky above, Young lovers hear on whispering wind, ...you are my life, my love. On a far and distant knoll, ...small cross of weathered pine, Where first I held you in my arms, ...first tasted lips of wine, Fifty springtimes come and gone, ...since Maiden of the Lea, Sang unto lush fields below, ...beneath dark night's array, Calling out unto the wind, ...come sail away with me, Into the sky, 'board Southern Cross, ...for all eternity, Now you lay in final rest, ...on far and distant knoll, Tonight I lay beside my rose, ...as to thy bloom extol, Come sail with me upon the wind, ...to welkin skies above, |
