A full moon rose Without thorns In an inevitably cool September sky For all the dead Years their days’ loves Lay still in their graves And no ghost crossed To move the mind Much less the heart To pause or praise It was an absence Then at last In which a peace Was eventually found So one becomes That solitary moon Distant detached Without regret So stoically silent As to be finally beautiful As only a stone can |
