The heart of the matter
is the heart.

It beats no matter
the loss or gain,
in sunshine and rain.

Some days both loss and gain
remain within the heart
as simultaneously they conjure up images
so filled with emotion
it's all a heart can do
to make it through to the next beat.
Loss and gain, love and pain,
Life’s rhythms beating symbiotically?

And yet the heart finds its way
each and every day
no matter whether I beg it to or not
it beats me to the punch every morning
with a strong message to

get up, get going,
for there are roads to travel
fences to mend
seedlings of love to nurture
and sometimes, trash to haul out
to the compost heap;
for most everything is
recyclable and repairable,
or so my heartbeat tells me.

The heart of the matter
is the heart.

It beats no matter
the loss or gain,
in pleasures and pain.

And today it beats strongly
with thoughts
of pleasure and gain.

and made me think just how strong of an organ it is . . . the heart.

It weathers everything and still endures.

yep...it snowed here yesterday
and it remains very cold
