(near still) breezes Drift through rays of cooler sun, That beam when August nears September; The world turns and leans slight back, Defeating summer torrids. This kind of sun paints bloody stains, On once-clean dogwood vestments- Bleaches green from leafy cloth, Replaces Jade, with Cosmo pink- And fades out limes to lemon-yellow. (near still) breezes Tickle chins of *Cornus Some odd shaped, like bishop miters- Orange jeweled, though fall displays Them ruby-berry clumps- Of oblong cherries- Hessian soldiers Marching down The outline of its crease. Thus preludes new colored drapes, The church prepares for coming days When autumn dyes-splash different paint, And frost will dull its glossy leaves, Changing the hue of its chasuble.. (near still) breezes Sing from balconies, Sending message over unripe fruit, And fading leaves-practicing Calling immigrants, soon to pass; "Come close, and taste Of these that God provides, His body form in berry shape, Come take! Communion from these branches-hands Held out by autumn priests. *Cornus- (Latin) Genus of the Dogwood family. . [This message has been edited by ice (08-22-2005 08:05 AM).] |

Vivid color to supplement one's inner communion with nature knowing there is some larger power to whom we should give thanks. I do, for this, and you. |

ford? you have just described the morning here. The subtext is interesting. You beautifully and vividly place in front of us nature and lying beneath her arms hides the congregation. This is a fine write, best I have read from you lately. Pat yourself on the back. I adore this. |

"Sing from balconies, Sending message over unripe fruit, And fading leaves-practicing Calling immigrants, soon to pass; "Come close, and taste Of these that God provides, His body form in berry shape, Come take! Communion from these branches-hands Held out by autumn priests." What a worship! Nature calls to me through this lovely write....I am homesick. ....jo |

Ohhh my, this...... near still) breezes Tickle chins of *Cornus Some odd shaped, like bishop miters- Orange jeweled, though fall displays Them ruby-berry clumps- Of oblong cherries- Hessian soldiers Marching down The outline of its crease. this was muscular with spirit and would make anyone beg for poetry.... then this..... Thus preludes new colored drapes, The church prepares for coming days When autumn dyes-splash different paint, And frost will dull its glossy leaves, Changing the hue of its chasuble.. a powerful montage creating a new skin color Now you've given me insight to what is happening on the other side of the door and then this..... (near still) breezes Sing from balconies, Sending message over unripe fruit, And fading leaves-practicing Calling immigrants, soon to pass; "Come close, and taste Of these that God provides, His body form in berry shape, Come take! Communion from these branches-hands Held out by autumn priests Wow, incredible verbage which dresses up Nature in all her language, showing us the many faces of her, which celebrate links to man and the cosmos...tremendous work Ford!!! |

Ford If you can make a garden look as beautiful as your poetry, then you are one fine landscaper!! I loved the imagery in this! |

The dogwoods I speak of grow along the Pine Creek, not far from my home....at the bottom of the "Grand Canyon Of Pennsylvania" It is a rough area of steep clifs and pine covered ridges, a perfect place to imagine things....like are imagined in this poem. I am humbled by these replys, just as I am humbled in the atmospher of the canyon.... Many thanks, poet friends, for these replys...... -------------ice ><> |

Ford, back in the seventies I spent quite a few times in "the little Grand Canyon" camping, right down in the canyon beside the creek. Our tents? where the stars.... We found beautiful waterfalls there. And yes, the Dogwood is one of my favorits to view, pink or white, they are lovely. This is a lovely write Ford, thank you for sharing your talents sir. yesterday is gone tomorrow doesn't exist |
