Friends...forgive me for this repost. I've been trying to think of that wonderful feeling of Christmas's past with my family long gone. And this poem says it best. I have a wonderful family still, with different members, but the old time was so very special to my memory. Merry Christmas everyone! My Very Only My very only she called you just a bit of girl stretched along arm of recliner next to your snoring self A presence felt along your left side like sight to the cataracts of your eyes full of whim and crinkled questions Read to me she told the paper folded over your face she took a peek under the largest letter it was an M my name starts with that she whispered Grandpa listen listen the paper is loud it will wake you if you move don’t move Only while you’re sleeping could you cross your legs let me sit on your foot be my horse now please I’ll hold your knee make that sound the clop clop with you tongue sing me the song that horses strum I’ll close my eyes and we will be just us two and the prairie They ride the clouds to the far beyond on the horse of that recliner wings are drawn ---------- In loving memory of Michelle and my dad (Michelle was aware that this grandpa was her only "real" gramdpa...meaning a blood relative. So she called him her "very only Grandpa". Pretty special, I think...don't you? |

Such a beautiful thing this is, as fragile and delicate as parchment. Drat these blasted machines--sometimes I just want to reach through them! I'd like to touch you--the way that you just touched me. sighing You are so lovely. |

Martie, this is absolutely beautiful and a fitting tribute to those Pa's and Ma's now gone before and the new crop coming along. I'm reminded how tickled I was when I was called Pawpaw and my gf Grawma by her daughter's 3-year old. I'm still tickled, and hope to be able to tell Trevor and Tommy (his baby brother) fairy tales, fables and downright lies before the eldest enters kindergarden, when the furnace of 'modern' education will dry up his fertile imagination. |

Oh, Martie, this is so very special! How precious are the moments of innocent honesty and love. For some reason or other life and time always takes them away from us but we remember - yes, we remember and as we do, well, they're right back again. My best to you over the festive season. Helen |

Oh My, now please don't ever apologize for your heart, my Dear Lady and your exceptional writing. (shame on you) This brings me many smiles for that bond and the angel that hung on your leg and still does. She was a Peter Pan . . . Merry Christmas, Martie |

I can see her, you know? because of your beautiful imagery, can hear her laugh and see that twinkle in grampa's eye. You keep them both close to your heart by such memories. |

Very special memories Martie. All my Grandpa's are gone and I do so miss them. When my Grandma got remarried, I was about 4. I ran into the house up to him, and said: "Are you my new Grandpa?" He said he was and he kept his word. "too bad ignorance isn't painful" |
