I could have remained bitter
for so many reasons
you know them all
pick one...
It would be enough on its own....

My heart has never been that way
I chose instead
to still believe in love
that it was there
and it was real
...simply waiting

I think you hated that
I think you hated everything about me
that was after all
the only real truth
the only true emotion
you ever really shared with me

I think you wanted me to be like you
to hate....
To destroy within me
that love...
To teach me not to feel love...

Funny,
the only thing you did teach me
was not to love
you....

It was a lesson,
I will never forget....

I believe that a heart full of love cannot be taught how to hate....but the hateful heart CAN be taught how to love. Enjoyed the thoughts and emotion behind this poem...and sure do understand having been there.

I think all of us can relate to this poem. It takes awhile to get to this point though, not being bitter and being able to love another.

I learned this lesson, too. But, as for believing love is real, I lost that belief. I have always enjoyed reading your poetry. You are one of the best.
